mirrors
Being moved to share this piece of information about mirrors:
Mirrors are portals If you think about aerially zooming out from the place where you inhabit in your building, and soaring above all of the buildings and the town and the state and the country And think about the sheer quantity of mirrors that would exist below you from that vantage point If they all suddenly lit up in a neon color It would look like this map stricken with dots below you. Energy exchanges happen when we look in mirrors In certain eastern countries it is well known and customary to cover mirrors at night It is not recommended to locate mirrors within bedrooms, or if they are, certainly not across from the bed. (and thereby -definitely not above it…) When I started covering mirrors at night to sleep, my quality of sleep improved. At the time of the full moon, it is a self-care ritual to wash the mirror or clean the mirror Spray or paper towel, nothing fancy To wipe it clean and see clearly To see yourself clearly. So many people think it’s cheesy to stare at yourself, and say things and honestly I do too that is not how I embrace the concept of affirmation The mirror has been a weird place for me, and at this point it doesn’t matter, and I choose to affirm things when I am on the move and not staring into my reflection Not to say that I do not embrace my reflection, but typically I am probably singing or dancing. Not reciting self talk. But if you choose to recite talk when you’re in the mirror, and speak to yourself, make sure it is not in deprecating fashion I saw a wise post one time that said, if you struggle with self deprecating talk, try practicing or engaging your same dry humor, to be insanely sarcastic. You end up actually complimenting your self even if you don’t believe it and even that is better than affirming something negative, so it’s a good transition point. I thought it was good advice. I speak sometimes about once being at an all-girls, marine biology/leadership program. In the farmhouse where we lived there were no mirrors. In the place where there should be mirrors in the bathrooms, there were clear whiteboards, and there were dry-erase markers and you could choose to write or draw. You could also choose to erase. The spaces were communal. It took me a while to adjust to that, but I embraced a sense of creative freedom and peace with myself that was very meaningful for me at the age of 16 by living like that. The closed circuit energy exchange that exists with you and the reflection Is meaningful.
Another thing I forgot to mention in my earlier post from today is that we have been culturally sanctioned into a normalized level of stress chemicals Adrenaline Work, changing threats When we do not experience this, it feels like somethings wrong Do not create problems that don’t exist Sometimes all you have to do is experience security of how nice it feels to be completely relaxed in all of your muscles bones sinews tendons tissues and cells …and breathe That’s it, that’s the whole activity!
It is incredibly worthwhile
And necessary!
